About Us
Ben and Sam Allott are the founding veterinarians and owners of Pegasus Bay Vets.
It has been our dream since we met in Vet school to one-day open our own small, family run vet clinic. We are so excited to be able to provide a small intimate practice where we develop genuine long-standing relationships with our clients, and where we can ensure the consistency of the care and service you experience every time you visit us. We love working together and with each sharing different special interests, we complement each other well and together can cater to all of your, and your pets needs
We met at university in 2008 and married in 2011 as young graduates. We now have two beautiful animal-loving daughters Leah and Lucy, and a house, and yard full of pets. We currently are blessed to have been chosen to share our family with Baxter – a beautifully natured Border Collie, Miley – a furry bundle of Shih Tzu x Poodle energy, Narla – the superior feline Queen of the house, and Ash & Twinkletail – our two free range lop-eared rabbits. Over the years we have lost several well-loved pets (Bazza-our crazy, energetic labrador cross, Schnappy-our temperamental long-haired cat, and Joey – our cruisy, happy, smiling adopted Spanador) and from experience know the many joys, the stressors, the comfort, and sometimes the pain of sharing our lives with pets.
Ben Allott (Veterinarian)
My last year at Massey University was 2009 and I promptly graduated into mixed practice (farming + companion animals) in the lower North Island. I had a varied career as a mixed practice veterinarian with a short stint in a corporate veterinary role, but after 9 years I decided to immerse and focus on Companion Animal practice. I enjoy all aspects of general practice though I particularly enjoy turning some music on and diving into a full roster of surgery and dental appointments. Recently I have developed a keen interest in veterinary ultrasonography and am keen to develop my expertise in this area as I see it offering so much in helping to diagnose and better manage a range of medical conditions.
Outside of work you will see me teaching the girls to ride their bikes or how to roller-skate around the lake, or if I’m on my own I will be kayaking on the lake, surf kayaking at Pegasus beach, or running around the wet-lands in this great place we call home.
Sam Allott (Veterinarian)
My last year at Massey University was 2010 and I went straight into a companion animal vet job in the same practice as Ben where we worked together for 3 years. Since moving to Canterbury in 2014 I have worked in private and corporate practice in Christchurch and Rangiora while also bringing our two lovely girls into the world. In recent years Ben and I have worked together again and with us both loving this work environment we feel the time is right to start making our dream our reality. I love forming relationships with people and their animals and look forward to providing your family with the best care I can. I am currently studying toward a Masters in Veterinary Medicine and have a special interest in soft tissue surgery and ophthalmology (eye medicine). When I’m not at work you will find me walking our dogs, keeping our girls entertained or completing chores that Ben said he would do (joking…but only a little).
